I first met Patti when she was a student at the University of Sussex and I was an international student from California. Over the Christmas holidays she invited me to Cademuir, her home, where I had a wonderful time. I met her brother David then and subsequently spent many summers helping on the farm at Cademuir. My wife Susan and I were married in Kirkton Mannor and, at the time, Patti owned a substantial piece of the estate at Glenternie where she arranged for us to have our wedding reception. She remained a good friend for our entire adult lives. Susan and I were lucky to see her a year ago when were were visiting in the area. She had us to Cademuir for lunch and pulled out all of the stops. She was a spectacular hostess--generous and full of good cheer and wonderful stories. I'm very sorry I only learned of her death this week and so won't be able to attend the funeral service, but I will be there in spirit. She will be much missed.
