During a funeral service, it’s common to have a digital tribute featuring photos of the person who’s passed accompanied by music. Sometimes this is delivered during the service as a short presentation, and others use their tributes to welcome visitors, played again at the end of the funeral.
The recommended running time for an in-service digital tribute is 3-4 minutes. This allows people to reflect on the images and creates a natural pause for officiants leading the service.
Photos
- For a 3-4 minute presentation, we recommend a maximum of 40 photographs with a lower limit of 25 to allow them to be seen and rotate at a natural and accessible pace.
- Original photographs are preferred to copies which we’ll scan in branch and arrange return to you.
- Where the resolution is not clear (for example, screenshots of a photograph, or a bus/identity pass), it may not be possible to use the image.
- Copies should be emailed as jpeg or gif files for the best resolution; we cannot upload from PDF documents.
- Content on pen drives or from third parties cannot be used in our digital tributes for licensing reasons.

Music
- Music to accompany photographs is advisable and if a song or tune is licenced, we’ll be able to source it.
- For particular tracks, it’s helpful to have the artist and song names bearing in mind there are many variations of popular options.
- It’s not possible to use tracks from channels like You Tube.
- If music is chosen for a period of time before the funeral begins, we would recommend planning for 30-45 minutes.
- Exit tracks are usually a stand-out song or tune, but having 3 or 4 tracks selected in advance is good practice.
- Reflection music during a service, not necessarily attached to a digital tribute, should also last around 3-4 minutes.
USBs and Live Streaming Links
- It’s possible for us to record whole services or store the digital tribute on USBs. These are kept as mementos or sent to family and friends who may not have been able to attend, often with a copy of the printed Order of Service.
- Live streaming links or webcasts from a crematorium, will be accessed via a link with a password which we send to the person arranging a funeral. They can share this link on email, WhatsApp, or social media. We don’t share these links with anyone else, even those who may approach us to help with access. This is to avoid information being shared to persons not authorised by the next of kin.
- We recommend logging in 15 minutes before a funeral’s scheduled start time.
- There is no charge to view a funeral. Any requests for fees to view a funeral should be reported and treated as a scam.
