Planning ahead – Tools to help you

People in the UK don’t like talking about death.

It’s official. Year on year, research points to the staggering numbers of funerals arranged where families have little or no clue what their loved one would have wanted.

Professional advice usually costs money. Our expertise is free and we’re here to help families plan ahead, have difficult conversations to be prepared. Here’s some of the ways we can help.

Free “Plan of Wishes” service

You make your choices, whether that’s chapter and verse or just a few decisions, and we’ll prepare a free printed Plan of Wishes for storing with your important papers or sharing with key people. Do this online or make an appointment to speak with us.

Free “For when the time comes…”

Like a Plan of Wishes, we can prepare a draft of wishes for someone nearing end of life. It’s stored with a local team and a confirmation card is left with the person so any next of kin or executor can follow up knowing we’ve got their wishes recorded in anticipation.

Prepaid funeral plans

Putting money aside that is protected and designed to cover the main costs of your funeral is best achieved through our Golden Charter prepaid plans. We don’t sell packages. Each one is tailored to your requirements. They fix our professional fees at today’s prices guaranteeing them for when you need us. And by being tailored, we set aside realistic sums for the third party costs like cremation or cemetery fees that are outwith our control.

Families who have to arrange a funeral without a plan can spend up to £335 more on a funeral. All too often we see the burden of doubt as they wrestle with decisions in their bid to honour a loved one. One of the kindest things we can do is to leave a note of our preferences.

Free planning ahead checklist

Use this list to trigger a conversation with family to get an idea of what they believe is preferable. It can help navigate tricky choices and encourage people to share their likes and dislikes to gauge what’s right for a later time.

However remote death is now, leaving a clue for those we love, and being intentionally loving by asking someone we love whose funeral we may have to arrange, is difficult. With our help, be the 1% of UK individuals who feel confident about organising a funeral because “we know what they wanted.”
